Szigliget Castle

Szigliget Castle is one of the most visited and well-deservedly popular castles in Hungary. Located on the northern shore of Lake Balaton, it has a history spanning around 750 years. To the south, it is bordered by Lake Balaton, while to the north it is surrounded by the marshy plains and hills of the Tapolca Basin. No matter from which direction you approach Szigliget, the ruins of the castle can be seen from afar.

Szigliget Castle is one of the few fortresses that never came under Ottoman control during the Turkish era. It preserved its independence for about 150 years. Later, it was destroyed by Habsburg forces, who blew up its walls.

The castle has since been restored and now welcomes visitors with even more attractions. It offers a perfect destination for excursions, relaxing walks with beautiful panoramic views, summer evening concerts, and many other experiences.

Tapolca Mill Lake

With its Mediterranean-style houses, the historic mill building, and the beautifully landscaped surroundings of the lake, Malom-tó (Mill Lake) in Tapolca is one of the most atmospheric areas in Hungary.

If one were to create an ancient legend about Tapolca, it could be said that the history of the town originates here, from these springs. This would not be far from the truth, as archaeological research shows that Temple Hill dates back to the 1st century AD. The area has been inhabited since the 5th millennium BC, and the center of Tapolca developed in this part of the settlement during the Middle Ages.
